After a successful debut Test series on an overseas tour to England, Shubman Gill is set to lead the North Zone in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025 event. The 25-year-old had a terrific series as captain and also with bat in hand, as he scored 754 runs and drew the five-match Test series 2-2. The right-hand batter's calm and composed demeanor was lauded by most experts. Leading a fairly inexperienced side, the young skipper was instrumental in rallying his troops and managed to keep fighting throughout the five Tests.
While at times Gill was criticized for his defensive and tactical calls, largely he was able to back his instincts, which in the end, paid rich dividends. His leadership was especially appreciated during the fifth Day of the Oval Test, where England needed only 35 runs with six wickets in hand. Contrary to popular notion, the skipper did not take the new ball when available and continued to operate Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
It is due to his commendable leadership that Shubman Gill is likely to lead the North Zone. According to the latest report, a full-strength side is likely to play for the Duleep Trophy.
No rest for Shubman Gill as he is set to return to leadership in the Duleep Trophy
For the unversed, several reports mentioned that Gill will be rested for the Asia Cup due to workload management. However, with the Ajit Agarkar-led panel also considering the 25-year-old for the Continental Cup, there is no time for the young batter to rest. This year's Duleep Trophy will return to the zonal format with six teams participating = North Zone, South Zone, West Zone, Central Zone, East Zone, & Central Zone.
