Former England skipper got to a major milestone at Lord's on day 2 of the third Test against India. After he scored his 37th Test ton earlier in the day, Root dismissed Karun Nair, taking a brilliant catch at slips.

Karun Nair managed to cross the 30s and was dismissed on 40 runs off 62 balls with Root taking a blinder. 40 is now the highest score for Nair in this series. He is playing the third Test on the trot after indifferent form in the first two games.

Nair did not look in any trouble before he edged one from Ben Stokes to Joe Root. He had earlier survived a close call from Stokes before getting dismissed.

Joe Root Tops Catching List In Test Cricket

Nair scored 40 runs, hitting four glorious cover drives for boundaries. However, he failed to kick on now for the fourth time in the series. He scored 20, 31, 26 and now 40 in the four innings he has batted in the series so far.

Meanwhile, after taking Karun Nair's catch, Joe Root became the player to take the most catches as a fielder in Test cricket. He went past Rahul Dravid's tally of 210 catches and now has 211 catches in Test cricket. He took the catch on his left hand as the ball was dying on him. The third umpire took a hard look before ruling the decision in favour of Stokes and England.

He also went past names like Mahela Jayawardene (205), Jacques Kallis (200) and Steve Smith (200) as well. Before making a contribution in the field, Root scored his 37th Test ton earlier in the day. He was unbeaten on 99 runs at stumps on day 1 and went on to score his 11th Test ton against India. It was also his eighth at Lord's, the most for him on any England ground.

Archer, Stokes Rocks India After England Post 387

England finished with 387 runs, with the lower-order adding 100 runs since the dismissal of Root and Stokes. The bowlers have done a good job so far with Jofra Archer picking up a wicket in his very first over on his Test return. This was followed by Stokes dismissing Nair after he added 66 runs with Rahul.
