Times have been tough for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The side has had an awful start to their campaign. The Yellow Army is now placed ninth in the IPL 2025 Points Table. The side has played 6 games thus far, having won just 1 and lost the other five.
As things stand, it looks pretty gloomy for CSK to make it to the playoffs. But all hope is not lost. With 8 more group stage matches left to play, CSK can now afford to lose just a handful of games.

What CSK needs to do to reach IPL Playoffs?
Till last season, a team notching up 14 points can make it to the IPL Playoffs. But acquiring 14 points can often be not enough. If 2 or more teams are stuck on the same points, then the team with the better NNR gets the nod.
On the other hand, CSK has been dealt with a huge blow. Their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has suffered an elbow injury and thus has been ruled out of the tournament. Thus, MS Dhoni will be leading the side for the remainder of the tournament.
In their previous game, CSK was handed a humiliating 8-wicket loss at home by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This marked their 5th loss in a row for the Yellow Army.
For CSK, they need to win at least 7 of their next 8 matches. A total of 8 wins will take them to 16 points, which would be enough to secure a place in the semi-finals. Under MS Dhoni's captaincy, the side last won the title back in 2023.
