Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has finally broken his silence about his future with the franchise for the first time since the end of IPL 2026. CSK finished last in IPL 2024, winning just four while losing as many as 10 games.
MS Dhoni took captaincy midway through last season after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with an injury. However, he could not help his side turn around their forgetful campaign.
He spoke about his future with CSK at a private event last week, where he confirmed his deep-rooted commitment with the franchise. He said that his relationship with the franchise is beyond the playing field and will never fade away.

Me And CSK We Are Together - MS Dhoni
He further said that whether or not he plays the next IPL season depends on a lot of factors and it is not just about playing a couple more years with the franchise.
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know even for the next 15-20 years (crowd cheers). I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years! But yeah,” Dhoni said.
It was expected that MS Dhoni would retire from the IPL after winning his fifth IPL title with the franchise in 2023. However, he played on in 2024 and 2025 with form and injury concerns. He had a knee surgery done before the IPL 2024 season and since then he has not been the same player as he was before.
After bypassing a question on his future with CSK at a previous event, he decided to have a response to it in the recent event held last Saturday.
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us. We have not been up to the mark. But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also,” he said.

Rutu Will Be Back - MS Dhoni
He further confirmed the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the next season while addressing the batting concerns the franchise faced in IPL 2025.
“Rutu will be coming back. He got injured. But he will be coming back. So, we are quite sorted now, also pointing to the upcoming December mini-auction as a window to plug remaining gaps” Dhoni added saying.
He concluded his interaction at the event by one again cherishing his association with the city of Chennai and CSK.
So, I feel the relationship over the years has grown. It helped me improve as a person. It helped me improve as a cricketer. CSK just happened. I think it's good for Chennai. So, today it's good for me also” MSD concluded saying.
